The Focal Sound is the fruit of our love for music. For more than 40 years, it has been growing and maturing. It has developed over the years thanks to the research and technologies that have enhanced our expertise in speaker drivers.

We chose a strong audio identity for the brand’s unique sound signature. For us, the richness of sound has to be revealed through the bass, the mid-range and the treble, with finesse and fluidity, without added frills or distortion. Our intention is to have the utmost respect for music and for the artists’ and musicians’ original work.

Focal Soundstage

Focal endeavours to reproduce a soundstage which is faithful to the true sound of the recording or concert. It must be possible to situate each instrument on this live soundstage, just the way it sounds during the recording or concert. Close your eyes: the rhythm section is in the middle towards the back, the guitars are up front and to the side, with the singer in the centre, right in front of the listener... everything is present, in the right place, at the right distance.

Sound Dispersion

In a home cinema system, imagine a plane taking off over your left shoulder, flying over you, and moving further and further away to the right. Sound dispersion has become more precise than ever before, and with unprecedented finesse. In order to hear for yourself, listen carefully, paying attention to the position of the instruments and musicians. You shouldn’t be able to hear them from all sides simultaneously, nor should you be able to hear them from the loudspeakers or loudspeaker groups in front of you. In cars, sound dispersion is easy to check. There’s just one rule: never overdo it. Either in terms of sound effects or overloading the bass, which can spoil the faithfulness and elegance of the music.

Three Channels or Harmony Found

The precision of sound is the speciality of our acoustic experts, who know how to put emphasis on the human voice, a frequency range situated between the mid-range and treble. We work simultaneously on controlling the bass to avoid the other channels sounding muffled. Other characteristics of the Focal Sound include: dynamics (the difference between the bass and treble), and the neutrality of the sound (the absence of colouration or frills which lead to distortion).
