Professional closed-back circum-aural headphones
Listen Professional circum-aural closed back headphones are the essential work tool for music production. Their tonal balance and precision in terms of audio spectrum make them perfect to evaluate the sound work quality. In addition, their comfort and accessories will make them very attractive for people travelling on business trips. The sound quality and the dynamics of these headphones are very surprising considering that this quality is usually found on more expensive items. The attention to detail of these headphones can be also shown thanks to the various patents and technologies which belong to Focal. Hence, a brand new driver membrane was developed. The main goal was to propose a solution which would keep all the dynamics from the original track while reproducing accurately every single detail on the whole audio spectrum. Even if Listen Professional headphones are closed, they produce a very lively sound, giving the feeling of semi-open headphones while still providing the isolation of closed headphones.
The speaker driver has been given a 100% Mylar suspension, whereas the central dome is composed of a Mylar-titanium alloy to provide more rigidity and extended frequency response in the upper end of the spectrum. Thus, the moving part is extremely light, enabling the transducer to exceed 40kHz on a flat baffle. The reproduction of the bass and sub-bass registers also received a great deal of attention. The team of engineers managed to combine two factors which are hardly compatible: a tuning frequency which is as low as possible and extremely low distortion (0.3% at 1kHz – 100dB).
The size of the ear cushions (height, width and depth) gives them a volume which makes it possible to achieve a great tonal balance. Microfiber provides a more linear bass response providing a better acoustic output, whereas the acoustic tissue, which is closer to the speaker driver, offers great absorption and linearity in the 3-9kHz register. The bass and lower mid-range sections benefit from remarkable tonal balance and excellent articulation: where compression and frequency response generally suffer on closed-back headphones.
Listen Professional is also equipped with a headband boasting a unique design to ensure comfort and durability. Its curve remains consistent, regardless of the shape or size of the user’s head. Combined with the layer of silicone underneath the headband, this ensures that the weight is spread out evenly over the head, preventing the user from feeling any pressure in certain areas, which can be very uncomfortable during long working sessions. The horizontal and vertical rotation of the ear cups operate thanks to one single part: a joint integrated into each one. The ear cups also feature a black structured covering, making them resistant to impacts and scratching.
Rigid carrying case. Thermoformed shell in the shape of the headphones. Can store one cable and an iLok® key (not provided), all within its compact dimensions. Two OFC copper 24AWG cables with a very low resistance.
I like the sound of this headphones
Absolutely fantastic headphones. Superb sound quality for the price and built to Focal's usual high standards. The included carry case is a real bonus and they go amazingly with my Alpha 65 Evo studio monitors. Recommended!
Love these headphones very comfortable and sound is amazing.
Amazing! Absolutely stunning! The sub-bass is unreal, making it a joy for both composing and mixing. It’s pure velvet for the ears. Compared it to my Sony and Beyer, no contest! Thanks a bunch!
Very comfortable and great sound
Great sounding neutral headphones. Clamping force is a little too tight for my preference.
nice.
Great product, cable is a little finnicky but headphones are great
Du focal comme vous savent le faire casque équilibré pas trop de basse bon support pour l audio spatial et hi res
Très satisfait pour mon baladeur audiophile et sur ma hifi
Headphones sound amazing, however the red pad starts to peel after repeat use. Still would recommend.
Fantastic headphones! Flat in reproducing high quality audio files. Impressive stereo image and details! Very confortable!
Excellent headphones, but the cushions wear off with less than a year of daily use.
Best!
Good headphones for the price, except the ear pads literally fall apart to tatters in a year or two of moderate non professional use. I tried for some time to buy stock replacement pads but Focal doesn't sell them directly, you have to go through one of their utterly useless dealers. One dealer told me that these aren't even a real Focal headphone model, because they're a consumer dealer and were totally unaware of the professional line. I finally found a professional dealer, ordered the pads, and they were never able to get any. Finally I ended up going aftermarket, and that was a great decision. The replacements I bought were Earpadz by Dekoni Audio. They don't look as nice as the stock units, but they help improve the anemic bass response of these headphones, and were only $30. Overall I'm pleased, but they need to improve the suede ear pad covers.
Excellent
They are great so far!
the new standard! It doesn´t sound like headphones, it sounds like the music I create with/through it! comfortable to wear and perfectly building quality. the added carrying case and the detachable coiled cables do the rest to my personal 5 stars. great company, keep on!
Amazing sound, excellent quality, suburb fit. Just what to expect from FOCAL.
I LOVE THESE "LISTEN PROFESSIONALS". MY PREVIOUS FOCAL HEADPHONES HAD TO BE REPLACED AFTER 10 YEARS OF USE WHEN I BROKE THE FRAME. BECAUSE THEY WERE A LEGACY ITEM, FOCAL DID NOT HAVE PARTS, BUT THEY OFFERED ME A VERY GENEREOUS DEAL ON THE "LISTEN PROS". I CANT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT THE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM STEPHANO AT FOCAL.
Amazing Sound
Really great no extra anything in low or highs good balance or mixing.
I still own the previous model what I loved and this one as well what I can not live without. Huge improvement in all level. Must have piece.
Best headphones I've ever owned. Super clear and detailed. No eq so you get the precise sound. Love them!
BEST HEADPHONES IVE EVER HAD!
Only had for a few days but seems like a quality product. Sound is balanced and clear; comfortable to wear; L/R clearly labelled; quality leads and case. Lead socket well placed. Happy so far! Would give 5 stars but haven't had long enough to judge durability.
I just love it. Sounds so good. Very even, an for a closed back it's incredibly not tiring... Best headphones I have ever had.
Amazing! I'm a professional bassist and I'm always going in and out of sessions, checking levels on stage, and having premiere playback in my ears is OUTSTANDING!
10/10! 100% would recommend.
I've never heard about those headphones before and Robby Resnick from Sweetwater suggested it to me. Loved it, the looks, the sound, the package, everything. After it goes to the real-life situation you can see what is really working and what is not. But the sound and comfort, what really matters to me, are amazing.
They provide the phone with 2 cables and I think the coil one could be a little longer. The case is amazing but sometimes it's too big if you are planning to take it with you, some sort of gig bag could be amazing.
I think the ear cushions wear off too fast. Less than 2 years. And ok, that can happen, although the Focal team answered me very fast, the website shows some dealers that do not carry the brand nor could help me to buy the replacement parts.
4 stars just because those earpad cushions wore off very quickly with me and I am having a hard time getting the replacement.
If I would buy it again? Probably not, although the product is amazing, looks like the post-sale is an issue at least it's to me.
Clear, but weak bass response. Seems to be fairly well made. Impossible to contact anyone at Focal for help. Cord is much shorter than other brands headphones designed for studio work. Need longer cord but have not been able to find such a thing on this website. All things considered, overpriced. Thought I would take a chance on a different brand but I will go back to the tried and true. Focal is not ready to compete with the mainstays.
best pair of headphones i ever purchased..great for anything musically
Хорошее качество звука,
Но очень плохое качество Амбушюр , не так часто пользовался (дома)
но материал износился и выглядит плохо, и не могу найти новые амбушюры
Great product
Love Them. Great price incredible sound..
They Sound amazing!
I LOVE THE LISTEN HEADPHONE DESIGN, RANGE AND COMFORT.
BEST IVE HAD IN THIS PRICE RANGE
Great Detail.
crystal clear sound.best headphones I've owned yet
So Loved
try Again...
Very impressed with these. Haven't owned many headphones within this price range but, I can't see my self ever going back down the ladder. FYI you will need a quality source or else you won't be getting the most out of these.
Great sound. Flexible and comfortable.
An excellent headphone
Все отлично)
Love these headphones. Some day I'll upgrade to the Elegia but for now these cans are a great affordable choice for my music composing needs.
Excellent sound quality and comfort
So far so good, still burning them in but they sound great with a wide stereo field and pretty comfy during long lockdown sessions.
I have enjoyed using the Listen Professional headphones while creating & mixing original material both in the box & acoustical. A very accurate representation of my creations is always present, very little ear fatigue on long sessions, & recording errors are much more noticeable than with other phones. You most definitely & realistically hear what you mix.
An extremely durable pair of monitors which block out external sounds decently. While not the most comfortable, they sound consistent across the spectrum and would do their work excellently as isolation monitors and pin-pointing frequencies.
Really fantastic headphones. Excellent design and build materials. Sound is awesome: clear and crisp - you can hear each detain in recording. Vocals sound natural and lifelike and musical instruments are natural with fantastic timbre. Supplied cables are excellent, lock firmly to the headphones and are neither too long or too short. Tailor made. Headphones are very comfortable and offers good isolation from outside noise. Also no sound leakage was detected. Highly recommended.
Amazing! Everything is clear and precise, with a great overall tonal balance. These headphones are great for mixing and extremely pleasurable to just listen to music on.
Quality headphone low end good very comfortable
Amazing Quality at the mid price range. Will try the Clear's soon and give a review.
Great details.
Great headphones! Sound amazing! A little tight... but getting more comfortable with time.
GREATEST MIXING HEADPHONE OF ALL TIME PERIOD! WITH THIS AND A LAPTOP YOU CAN MIX A WHOLE RECORD AND HAVE IT TRANSLATE WELL!! HAD THE SPIRIT PRO BUT THESE ARE JUST NEXT LEVEL!!!!
As a music producer, pro sound and audiophile hobbyist, Ive owned over 30 pairs of headphones and so far, these are my favorites for studio versatility and listening enjoyment. I own Focal CMS 65 studio monitors, Fender Passport (Focal drivers) micro PA, Focal Spirit Professional headphones and car audio, so I've had my share of Focal equipment. I used to use my Spirit Pros for all things studio and had other headphones for listening, monitoring and on the go. These have combined everything I need in one sleek package, with all needed accessories for what I do.
The Focal Listen Professional is complete step up from my old pair of Focal Spirit Pros. The build is absolutely rugged with a nice soft headband, perfect clamping on the head without being too tight, and the most comfortable ear pads I've felt on headphones yet. The sound signature is perfectly balanced in my opinion: Near neutral, punchy bass with very deep extension, full clear mids and glistening beautiful highs. They are great for mixing in the studio, on the go, mastering tracks, enjoyable listening or precise gaming. I was able to listen to these for 6 hours my first session without any ear fatigue whatsoever.
For the price, I don't think there is a better all around studio headphone out there. They include very nice cables, a beautiful hard shell case and the most well thought out package Ive seen so far. These are basically the Focal Clear on a budget and truly give you a glimpse into the world of high end audio. They will serve my needs for a long time and have allowed me to liquidate the rest of my niche headphones and this will be the pair I keep. Thanks again Focal for an awesome product and great customer service!
What caught my ear was how detailed the sound is -- but the details are not obtrusive.
Perfect for mixing or listening.
Excellent improvement from from Spirit Pro. These are true monitors.
Great pair of headphones for tracking with superb quality. Its portability is very nice. The only negative for me would be the headband. After 45 minutes to an hour you can start to feel a bit sore. Hopefully a future iteration of this product will introduce a more comfy headband.
Great Product will refer to as many people as possible ,great sound dynamics
Love it, great for reference.
In general, perfect headphones!
Наушники просто бомба!!
Great overall sound, very clean and accurate.
The only downpoint for me is the rubber in the upper ring. It feels a bit uncomfortable and hard.
Super comfortable. Great for those who need two wear for hours. Sounds great
The Listen Professional are more comfortable than the Spirt Professional. They sound better too. Thank you for replacing my Spirts with the Listen Professional.
Perfection.
This is my first experience with Focal Headphones, but I own a couple pairs of Focal loudspeakers/monitors. I purchased these primarily for use for bass guitar practice and personal-use DAW monitoring.
When I first connected them my immediate impression was that they sound like absolute trash. The midrange was super forward, the low-end below 50 Hz was nonexistent, the high-end was peaky and thin . . . worse than knockoff iPod earbuds. BUT, they simply needed to break in. After around 18 hours of combined music and sine-sweep playback, I checked in again and they were an entirely different product. All above complaints were remedied. Focal should seriously consider burning these in at the factory. I bet there are a lot of returns based on how awful they sound out of the box.
In contrast to many of the online reviews I've seen, I find these headphones reasonably well driven by laptop and iPhone outputs. Low-end balance is a bit better from a higher-powered amp, but I am in no way encumbered for my uses. There are competing models with higher output from mobile devices, but also many others with much lower output. Unless you need to make a drummer's ears bleed, you'll be fine. I was able to use these to establish that one (ostensibly high-quality) sound output device I was testing had a very dirty and generally horrible sounding headphone stage.
Imaging is on-par or slightly superior to anything I've heard in this price range. To be clear, these are closed-back cans and perform accordingly. The ultra-wide soundstage and pinpoint imaging available on high-end open-back models is characteristically absent. That's ok as far as I'm concerned as the isolation benefits of closed-back headphones were a priority for me.
Frequency response and overall sound quality are very good for the price and design class. If you're accustomed to Focal's loudspeaker voicing, these are in-line with expectations. Low-end is contained but present. I would look for a bit more low-end dynamic transparency, but for the price point I can't complain. The high-end is a bit "sparkly" on cymbals and the like with perhaps a bit of support in the mid-high end missing. Male and female vocals sit exactly as expected. One of the big reasons I love Focal is that Focal products faithfully and fully convey richness and musicality in the midrange, and these are no exception. That said, they are neither priced nor perform like their sibling-products costing thousands. Still, big horns, rich voices, etc. are all characteristically conveyed. I am reviewing these with about 24 hours of burn time logged, and as noted above, break-in was essential. I am hoping that very low frequency response will open up a bit more with more time, but I have no complaints.
The cables are high-quality convenient lengths, and nicely configured. The cable with inline mic works well, though the mic's clarity is nothing special. Cable microphonics into the mic are surprisingly minimal. I appreciate that the coiled cable has a screw-type 1/4" adapter and velcro strap included. The case is nicely sized and functional. Overall the accessory quality is appropriate if not exemplary for the price point. The overall build quality is nothing special from a "luxury" standpoint, but seems very durable. I think Focal focused on flexibility and resilience for the materials here, and my impression is those qualities are achieved. I can bend and twist the headband all day with no indication of stressing the components. These are more utilitarian than luxurious. Given the "Professional" tag, that makes perfect sense and I'm glad to see it.
Comfort is good, but not perfect. I have an average-sized head and find the headphones fit perfectly with the arms fully extended. Someone with a large head my find the fit limiting. The ear cups are very comfortable, but the I find the headband puts a bit too much pressure on the very top of my head. I'll tend to move the headband around a bit every so often when wearing for extended periods to relieve the pressure point.
Isolation is very good, especially for a product that does not explicitly market on high ambient noise isolation. The ear cups feel like a memory-foam type of material covered in microsuede. They form effortlessly around the ear. The ear cups are removable, so I hope replacements become available at some point as I suspect I'll want to replace them after a few years of use.
Bottom line--These are class-leading and an excellent choice for professional and semi-professional use. I think they are worth considering for DAW editing, personal monitoring, general headphone checks and similar uses. If you are looking for audiophile, fashion, or casual listening headphones, you'll be better served by other designs.
I've never had a pair of headphones i've actually enjoyed wether playing out or for synth design. They're either overpriced, artist signature headphones that fall apart. Or lacking the full spectrum of sound. I have a pair of Alpha 80's that i love and was shopping for new headphones. Mine fell apart after 3 months of use. I saw that Focal made headphones specifically for production and I was sold. I like to pair these phones with my H6 field recorder as well.
Verry clear and precise sound. I like particulary the "kick" in the lower frequencies.
The sound is amazing but i think the leather is very easy dusty
Excellent! Comfort and sound much better than the old Spirit Pros. They also seem to be of a better build quality than the Spirit Pros also. Great job Focal!
Heard these at 2018 NAB and the guys at Vintage King Audio said they were a great step up from last years model. I love the light weight construction while also having good isolation on the mix stage. I did have to get a thunderbolt interface to give them more volume, the native mac port didn't push the signal enough for them compared to my last set of cans. But 3 mixes in and I'm very happy so far.
Listen Professional are great sounding and the design removes the issue Spirit Pro had with the plastic head band coming apart. Great Sounding and a Good fit on the ears. Plus the hard case and additional phone connector are very useful. Nice work Focal!
These monitor headphones have nice acoustical features such as, Sound pressure Level 122 dB - SPL, and excellent noise insulation, but i don't like the color of the device alot, it should have more color options.
Sound's very stable & smooth.
With this headphone, I hope to hear the whole music in my player ASAP.
Thank you.
